A Birthday Pie for Paul

Today is Paul's birthday, and he is a man after my own heart. Paul doesn't care for cake, but he LOVES apple pie.
I learned how to bake an Apple Pie from my wonderful Mom.
She could do something special that no one else could.
Now I'm not saying that my pies are as good as hers, but I did learn from her, and I don't think they are all that bad....

The first thing you have to have is this particular recipe, from the Betty Crocker cookbook.

Next, get all your peeling and coring supplies ready

Put together the dry ingredients for the crust

Cut in the shortening, really well. It should look like coarse crumbs
Knead the pastry til smooth and make a ball, cut it in half for top and bottom

Take one half and roll it out between sheets of waxed paper, no messy flour, and it is easy to lift into the plate.

Prepare the cinnamon for the apples, but don't put it on until you are ready to fill the pie.

Fill the pie and dot with butter

Put on the top crust, crimp the edges and create vent holes
Bake at 375 for about 55 minutes

And that's a happy birthday boy!
I love the feel of home and I love the business of making my home and homeschool work as smoothly and "Grace"fully as possible. I want to help preserve the art of Domesticity, with the added Blessing of Home Education.
This is the purpose of this blog. To pass along some of the things I have learned, and am learning, about organizing, about cooking, about homeschooling, about time management and other tidbits.
